Notes on the Music

To carry your hands and mind to where the spirit leads is a constant search, a difficult but pleasing task. Beautiful it is when the communication between spiritual message and human word is fully expressed in an earthly dimension.

When you’re able to reproduce what it is you’re hearing or saying or thinking, then the process of connection begins. Spirit, Soul, and Being – fascinating things that you’re feeling – you see them coming, but are not able to control them until you capture them in a practical manner.
To transmute into musical notes that which shows itself as a labyrinth of images – glimpses of the soul that we don’t often see in our day-to-day lives – in this way we translate the messages of those who guide us in each moment, the Spirits and our Ancestors.

This has been my experience in the recording sessions for this project.

Playing with space, looking for the beauty of silence, recreating images through sounds with an unlimited freedom - this has without a doubt marked the path of this recording.

With freedom extreme as the primary condition, we have been carried to places where we have never before thought to explore. Thank-you to the Spirits and the Ancestors who have given us their strength to realize this project. Thank-you to Scott one more time for his sincere and unconditional support. And thank-you to all those who in one way or another have put their hands and energy into this project.

To all who listen, and read these notes – Ache, Light, Peace and Love.

-Omar Sosa

Among the Dogon people of Mali the concept of "mi"
connotes the inner voice of a human being
expressed though the sound of an instrument.

In this scenario, 1 plus 1 equals 88 tone drums in
conversation with a triple diminished skin
on skin contraption.

Does genetic memory go back a million years to
our universal mother?
Where does imagination come from?
We celebrate these questions in this recording.
We catch the music in our sails.
Listening, breath and the moment
are our delights.

Motions inside of motions,
time into form
chaos becoming fractals in the dance of Nkisi.

These are our songs of experience:
the South Side of Chicago,
Havana, Cuba,
the call of birds …
the language of leaves …
the resonance of "mi"…
scintillas of sound …
pictures of soul.
One heart speaks to another.
